چکیده

Azimuthal asymmetries in exclusive electroproduction of a real photon from a longitudinally polarized deuterium target are measured with respect to target polarization alone and with respect to target polarization combined with beam helicity and/or beam charge. The asymmetries appear in the distribution of the real photons in the azimuthal angle φ around the virtual photon direction, relative to the lepton scattering plane. The asymmetries arise from the deeply virtual Compton scattering process and its interference with the Bethe–Heitler process. The results for the beam-charge and beam-helicity asymmetries from a tensor polarized deuterium target with vanishing vector polarization are shown to be compatible with those from an unpolarized deuterium target, which is expected for incoherent scattering dominant at larger momentum transfer. Furthermore, the results for the single target-spin asymmetry and for the double-spin asymmetry are found to be compatible with the corresponding asymmetries previously measured on a hydrogen target. For coherent scattering on the deuteron at small momentum transfer to the target, these findings imply that the tensor contribution to the cross section is small. Furthermore, the tensor asymmetry is found to be compatible with zero. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering at HERMES

The HERMES experiment at DESY, Hamburg used the HERA 27.6GeV electron/positron polarised beam to study the structure of the nucleon. Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) provides access to Generalised Parton Distributions (GPDs) via measured azimuthal asymmetries. Data was collected from 1995 to 2007 with both longitudinally and transversely polarised gas tar-gets(H, D or heavier nuclei), w...

0 Leading twist asymmetries in deeply virtual Compton scattering

We calculate spin, charge, and azimuthal asymmetries in deeply virtual Compton scattering at leading twist-two level. The measurement of these asymmetries gives access to the imaginary and real part of all deeply virtual Compton scattering amplitudes. We note that a consistent description of this process requires taking into account twist-three contributions and we give then a model dependent e...

Azimuthal asymmetries at CLAS: Extraction of e(x) and prediction of AUL

First information on the chirally odd twist-3 proton distribution function e(x) is extracted from the azimuthal asymmetry, ALU , in the electro-production of pions from deeply inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons off unpolarized protons, which has been recently measured by CLAS collaboration. Furthermore parameter-free predictions are made for azimuthal asymmetries, AUL, f...

Predictions for azimuthal asymmetries in pion & kaon production in SIDIS off a longitudinally polarized deuterium target at HERMES

Predictions are made for azimuthal asymmetries in pion and kaon production from SIDIS off a longitudinally polarized deuterium target for HERMES kinematics, based on information on the ’Collins fragmentation function’ from DELPHI data and on predictions for the transversity distribution function from non-perturbative calculations in the chiral quark-soliton model. There are no free parameters i...
